Norries Williamsom is an IAAF accredited course measure and the author of one of the most popular book on long distance, “Everyone’s guide to distance race”.
The former Athlete, who is based in South Africa has measured five Olympics Course.
Norrie, who became an accredited IAAF measurer in 1985, played a leading role in founding of Athletics South Africa (ASA) in 1994, The 64 years Old was instrumental in securing certification for Access Bank Lagos City Marathon.
The widely traveled Norrie has represented Great Britain, Scotland and South Africa in running and Triathlon.
He measured the course of the 2018 and 2019 Access Bank Lagos City Marathon and he believed strongly that Access Bank Lagos City is one of the best in Africa.
‘’ Not a doubt Access Bank Lagos City Marathon is the biggest in Africa in term of entries and there is not a question on that, it is a flat marathon so it got potentials on fast time. The record on this course is 2:15:04 for men and 2:34 for the women, the Lagos Event is probably one of the best in the World.
Fifty thousand US dollars is the first Prize in London and the first prize in Lagos, so it gives you a feel of how this marathon is and could be ’’.
Norrie also shared his views as regards to what Access Bank Lagos City Marathon needs to do to be better.
‘’ The first thing we need to do is to appreciate that the running culture in Nigeria was always Sprints, when I was competing , it is the Nigerians and the East Africans that are always winning the Gold in the Sprints and the Long Jump .
The Culture of Distance Running is only just being started here , so one of the biggest Challenges we had here is the development of the of distance running culture and that is starting to come true and we can see that in the progression of the times of the top Nigerian runners at the Marathon ’’.
Norrie Williamson lives in Durban whenever at home but work around the World and get home around 70 to 80 nights in a year.
