The leadership of the All People’s Congress in Lagos state and the embattled state’s Governor, Akinwunmi Ambode may be heading for a more serious collision following his insistence on Wednesday that he will run for a second term.
Mr Jide Sanwo-Olu had emerged the party’s preferred aspirant to pick the gubernatorial ticket for the Lagos state governorship election even with the incumbent having registered his intention to run for a second term.
Though there have been reports about the governor trying to persuade the leadership of the party to oblige him the ticket for a second term, a statement however purported to have been signed by the governor to the effect that he has endorsed his major opponent Jide Sanwo-Olu emanated Wednesday morning.
Denying the report through a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Habib Haruna however, Governor Ambode described the report as the handiwork of misguided individuals ,adding that government is “not oblivion of the desperation of some misguided individuals who are hellbent on fanning the ember of discord within the Lagos APC.”
In the statement, Governor Ambode
Insisted that he would serve through his constitutional stipulated time of two terms with the first term due to be completed in few months.
Describing the early morning report that he had endorsed Sanwo-Olu has false , “with no iota of truth”, the statement said “the tremendous strides and infrastructural development embarked upon by His Excellency will be completed by him within the constitutional stipulated time.”.
