The Governor of Ogun State, Senator Ibikunle Amosun, has said that he and indeed the entire Ogun State were proud of the superlative developmental performance of his Bayelsa counterpart, the Honourable Henry Seriake Dickson.
Amosun said that Ogun State was indeed pleased with the focussed leadership and developmental exploits of the governor who has roots in the popular Fidipote Royal family of Ijebu Ode in Ogun State.
According to a statement by the Special Adviser to the Governor of Bayelsa State on Media Relations, Mr. Fidelis Soriwei and made available to Thepage, Amosun made the comment when he led a high-powered delegation to the Toru Orua country home of the governor to condole with him on the death of his mother, Mrs. Goldcoast Dickson, on Thursday.
Amosun was accompanied in the visit by the Gubernatorial Candidate of the All Progressive Candidate in Ogun, Hon. Abdulkabir Akinlade, Senator Lekan Mustapha, ( Ogun East), Senator Tolu Adebiyi, (Ogun West), members of House òf Representatives, top government officials and others.
The governor said that the performance of Governor Dickson and the quality of leadership he was providing for his people only gave a clear insight into the reputation and the quality of person of his late mother.
The Governor conveyed the condolences of the Awujale of Ijebulabd and other top traditional rulers and indeed Ogun State to the Dickson family on the death of his mother.
He said, “As I was coming here, I could see your efforts. We will one day go as governors but what do we leave behind after us. So I commend you for what you are doing in Bayelsa State.
“We have been monitoring your achievements in Bayelsa so I say well done. You will leave in a blaze of glory; People will remember you for your good work because Governor Seriake Dickson, came saw and conquered.”
The two governor called for a strengthened Nigerian unity beyond party affiliations and urged Nigerians to focus on issues that could strengthen the nation’s unity rather than causing division.
He said that the exploits of Governor Dickson’s mother and his ties to the Ogun Royal family through his grand mother signified effective relationship that could strengthen the nation’s unity.
“It is easy to say Bayelsa is far away because of distance but our visit here is a lesson for all of us, that it is we politicians that usually divide ourselves. Look at Governor Dickson, look at me and look at mama, all the way from Ogun state. Nobody will know that his mother has roots in Ijebu land until you tell them.
“So it is a lesson for us that we are better off when we talk more of things that unite us and bind us together and speak less of those things that divide us. This visit is a very good example of that handshake across the Niger.” He added
In his remarks, Governor Dickson expressed gratitude to the Ogun Governor, and indeed all Ogun people for the show of concern, care and love.
He restated the position of the Dickson family to establish a cancer awareness centre to prevent avoidable deaths from cancer.
He commended his Ogun State counterpart for providing effective governance in his state for almost eight years.
