The People’s Democratic party’s campaign plans may have ran into trouble waters if information available to Thepage is anything to go by.
Contrary to permutations that the party’s Presidential candidate, Alhaji Atiku Abubarkar would have money to throw around for his campaign, sources told The page that Atiku is currently facing financial difficulties even as alleged efforts of the federal government to block his access to fund may be yielding dividends.
As a result of the financial constraints being faced by the party, it was gathered that a number of interests and personalities that have hitherto positioned themselves to align with the PDP candidate are gradually backing out and this is said to have thrown the entire campaign train into total confusion and disarray.
It was reliably gathered that this financial difficulty being encountered by the party may be responsible for the alleged decision of the Deputy Senate President Ikeremadu to dump the party for the ruling party.
Sources within the party further confirmed that the situation has gotten to a point that those regarded as committed to the cause of the party in clinching the Presidency are beginning to get discouraged even as some of them are said to be finding a way to penetrate the ruling party for patronage.
” We first noticed the trend at the convention when delegates had to make a lot of sacrifice contrary to expectations that there was dollar rain.
” A lot happened and so much have happened afterwards to send discouraging messages to party members to the effect that things may not be as we thought. But it has gotten to a point that it is beginning to appear that we may not have money to purse the party’s agenda in clinching the Presidency.” a source within the party divulged.
It was also gathered that the fund issue has made it difficult for serious mobilisation for presidential campaigns to be made.
“As it is, the only hope left for the party now is the Governors but they are also playing safe, so all the challenges are on the presidential candidate, we just hope something serious could be done soonest so that the entire project would not fall flat on in our faces” submitted a concerned party chieftain.
