Thibaut Courtois, Hugo Lloris and Kasper Schmeichel have been nominated as the three finalists for FIFA’s ‘The Best’ goalkeeper award.
Thibaut Courtois, who recently joined Real Madrid for £35 million, played every minute of Belgium’s third-place finish in Russia.
The Belgium international made his Real Madrid debut against Leganés on Saturday evening, in Real Madrid’s 4-1 victory at the Santiago Bernabéu.
Huge Lloris captained France to their World Cup triumph and also had a strong season with Tottenham Hotspur. Lloris kept four clean sheets in Russia and was an instrumental part of Didier Deschamps’ squad.
Finally, Leicester City’s Kasper Schmeichel enjoyed arguably the best World Cup.
Kasper Schmeichel made two saves in a penalty shootout against Croatia – as well as one from a spot-kick during extra time – however it was not enough to prevent Denmark from losing 3-2 on penalties in their last 16 clash.
