Manchester United goalkeeper David De Gea has reportedly revealed the only reason that will make him sign a new deal with the Red Devils.
The 27-year-old’s current contract at Old Trafford expires in the summer of 2019, and he join any club of his choice next term.
He was Real Madrid’s preferred choice all summer but their failure to land him made the Spanish League giants settle for Belgium international Thibaut Courtois.
However, reports from the club claims the Spaniard has supposedly demanded an eye-watering £350,000-a-week salary.
According to the Sun, the former Atletico Madrid man wants to earn as much as Alexis Sanchez and Paul Pogba at the club.
The goalkeeper will earn a staggering £72.8 million should United agree to the deal, and considering the UK’s 45 per cent top tax bracket, De Gea will still take home just over £40m from the deal.
He joined United from Atletico Madrid in 2011 and has been widely regarded as one of the best shot-stoppers on the planet.
He was close to joining Los Blancos in 2015 in a deal that would have seen Keylor Navas head in the opposite direction.
But a faulty fax machine scuppered the deadline-day transfer and within a month De Gea had signed a new contract at United – the one that will expire at the end of this season.
Manchester United know they could lose the player for nothing if his contract does indeed run down, although Real will not come calling this time.
The Spanish goalkeeper has long been linked with a move away from the club with Real Madrid and other top clubs in Europe reported to be interested in his signature.
According to the report by UK Sun, the 27-year-old goalie wants a salary that would bring him £350,000 a week for him to stay at Manchester United.
