Exclusive! How APC ‘Sacked’ Ekiti Senator, Adeyeye From The Senate For Olujimi

Spanners have been  thrown in the political permutations of the All Progressive Congress, ( APC) Senator representing Ekiti East Senatorial District, Prince Dayo Adeyeye’ gubernatorial ambition following his sack by the Court of Appeal.

With a ruling by the Appeal Court at the instance of Senator Biodun Olujimi,  Adeyeye’s election was upturned and Olujimi(PDP), pronounced the lawful winner of the election that produced Adeyeye as a Senator.

Prince Adeyeye was an influential member of the PDP in Ekiti, who dumped the party for the APC prior to the gubernatorial election which produced the incumbent government of Dr Kayode Fayemi in Ekiti.

His inability to get the support of the immediate past governor of Ekiti, Ayodele Fayose, to succeed him, Thepage gathered, was responsible for his defection to the APC where he believed he could pick the gubernatorial ticket, until the emergence of Fayemi, which also killed so many ambitions, including that of Segun Oni.

According to a source, the political misfortune that befell Adeyeye may not be unconnected with the role played by some key APC elements and the Solicitor General, Dayo Akpata said to be Governor Fayemi’s kinsman from Isan Ekiti.

ThePage gathered that the Senatorial seat was suppose to be a stop gap compensation  for Adeyeye by the APC for dumping Fayose and the PDP,  while he is expected to pick the gubernatorial ticket at a later time while he uses the Senate to garner funds and the necessary influence and support towards the next gubernatorial test.

Those who should know, maintained however, that the APC deliberately created landmines for the ambitious politician and withdrew tactical  support from him while his case lasted, to derail his gubernatorial ambition which key elements in the APC, see as detrimental to the ambitions of core members of the party lined up for the same gubernatorial ticket.

These, his PDP opponent in the Senatorial election which took place earlier in the year, Olujimi, lashed on to inflict on him, a deadly political blow capable of rendering him political impotent and could deny him the opportunity of getting a viable platform upon which his gubernatorial ambition could be realised.

Sources told ThePage that Adeyeye was programmed to fail by the APC from the time he made it known to the party’s managers in the state that he was interested in ruling the state.

Olujimi who contested the Senatorial election against Adeyeye on the PDP ticket had approached the Election tribunal to contest Adeyeye’s election immediately after election where she won.

Adeyeye was to challenge the Tribunal verdict at the Court of Appeal later and lost. A feat which those canvassing the connivance of the APC leadership theory  in the defeat  said would not have been possible without the ‘approval’ of the ruling party against Adeyeye who is believed to be an alien in the APC

The Appeal Court sitting in Ado Ekiti had to relocate to Kaduna to deliver the judgment and affirmed the September 9 tribunal judgment of Justice Danladi Adeck, which nullified the victory of the Senate’s spokesman and All Progressives Congress (APC) senatorial candidate in Ekiti South, Prince Dayo Adeyeye.

Reacting to the ruling, the PDP said the judgment of both the lower tribunal and the Appeal Court did not come as a surprise because the result declared by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) did not reflect the true vote cast in the first instance.

In a statement by the PDP Publicity Secretary in the state, Mr Jackson Adebayo, the party berated INEC for colluding with the APC to steal the mandate which was given to Olujimi and PDP at the poll without minding the democratic consequences on the nation.

“We congratulate all members of our party in the state and particularly congratulate Senator Biodun Olujimi for her courage to fight the battle to a victorious logical conclusion.

“We want to assure all our members that with the victory of Senator Olujimi there is a great future for the party, what we just need is to walk in unison towards subsequent elections in the state,” Adebayo said.

Meanwhile, the APC has rejected the Court of Appeal judgment, which sacked the spokesman of the Senate, adding that it did not reflect the wishes of people of Ekiti South Senatorial district.

The judgment, according to the APC, can best be described as a “travesty of justice and robbing Peter to pay Paul,”

APC, in a statement issued by its Director of Media and Publicity, Sam Oluwalana, noted that the short period spent by Adeyeye at the red chamber was indelible and remarkable for the people of Ekiti South and the state in general.

Oluwalana, who doubles as the SSA (Media) Party Matters to the state governor, stated that the Prince of Ise Ekiti exhibited exemplary traits while in the upper chambers.

“We commend Prince Dayo Adeyeye, who was highly-reverred by his colleagues in the Upper Chambers, for the exemplary leadership which he exhibited within the short period he spent in the Senate. We are proud of his achievements during the period, as he was able to manage information outflow, without any scandal in the House,” Oluwalana said.
