Tragedy struck in Ikorodu, Lagos at the weekend with a student of the state’s Polytechnic, allegedly committing suicide, following a disagreement with his girlfriend.
Thepage reliably gathered that the incident which occoured at Eyita area of Ikorodu on the 31st of May, 2019, has led to the arrest of the deceased’s girlfriend by men of the Shagamu road Police station in Ikorodu.
The deceased, 34 year old Joseph Mayowa was a part term Student of Lagos State Polytechnic, Ikorodu Campus, Department of Hospitality Management Technology.
He was alleged to have drank a poisonous chemical identified as sniper, following a misunderstanding between him and his girlfriend, 24 year old Olokodana Bolaji who was also a graduate of the same Institution.
Mayowa,it was gathered ,was rushed to the hospital by his neighbours following an alarm raised by his girlfriend, but eventually died.
The girlfriend said she dated Mayowa for 9 years, adding that he was however fond of beating her.
She sàid while she was with the deceased in his room, they had a quarrel and he as usual, resorted into physical violence.
Narrating how Mayowa died, the girlfriend said she ran into the rest room in the course of the quareel and upon return, she found Mayowa gasping for breath with an empty bottle of sniper beside him.
Meanwhile,homicide detectives from the State Criminal Investigation Department Yaba it was gathered, have visited the scene , while the corpse of the said Joseph Mayowa has been deposited at General hospital mortuary for autopsy.
Confirming the incident, The State’s Police Public Relations Officer, Bala Elkana said Investigation is ongoing to determine whether the case was actually suicide or murder.
