Kylian Mbappe said he “cannot tolerate” the physical treatment he received in Nimes that led to him being sent-off for reacting with a push.
Kylian Mbappe admitted he needs to control his temper but has no regrets over the push on Teji Savanier that earned him a red card in Paris Saint-Germain’s 4-2 win over Nimes.
The 19-year-old scored PSG’s third goal to put them back in front after a dramatic fightback brought Nimes level from being 2-0 down, but he was dismissed in the dying seconds for his reaction to a rash challenge by Savanier, who was also sent off.
The France forward indicated that the physical treatment he received from Nimes’ defenders was typical of the way teams in Ligue 1 handle him but apologised to supporters for picking up a suspension.
“It’s just an accumulation of things. It’s football,” Mbappe told reporters.
“You have to learn when playing in this kind of club to let it go because it’s like that everytime so if I get upset every weekend, I’m going to take several reds so we have to be above it.
“No, I do not regret it. And if it was again, so I will do it again.
“And I will apologise to supporters and everyone but I cannot tolerate these kinds of gestures.”
Mbappe was booked in the first half for dissent after he kicked the ball away at a Nimes free-kick and then aimed words at referee Jerome Brisard.
Neymar spoke to Mbappe shortly afterwards, appearing to calm the teenager after an opening period in which he was subjected to numerous heavy challenges.
Mbappe hit out at the tackle from Savanier that provoked him in the 94th minute, saying: “Where we play the ball, there are no problems, but here there is no intention to play the ball.
“But well, it doesn’t matter, I will go to the commission and I will go to defend myself.
“I think it has no place on a field of football but it does not matter, the referee has made a choice and, as I said, we must rise above it.
“Paris Saint-Germain is above that, we are above that.“
Euro 2020: Christian Eriksen To Get Heart-Starting Device After Cardiac Attack
After a series of tests were carried out by experts in the field, the Inter star will have a potentially life-saving device implanted
Article continues below
Christian Eriksen will be fitted with an ICD – a heart defibrillator – after he suffered a cardiac incident in the match against Finland, Denmark have confirmed.
The Inter star fell to the pitch unconscious on the second match day of Euro 2020 and had to be resuscitated before then being transported to hospital.
Now, after a series of tests carried out by medical specialists, it has been announced that Eriksen will have a potentially life-saving implant installed.
What has been said?
National team doctor Morten Boesen has been in contact with the cardiac specialist at Rigshospitalet and Eriksen, and this is the latest status: “After Christian has been through different heart examinations it has been decided that he should have an ICD (heart starter). This device is necessary after a cardiac attack due to rhythm disturbances.
“Christian has accepted the solution and the plan has moreover been confirmed by specialists nationally and internationally who all recommend the same treatment.
“We encourage everybody to give Christian and his family peace and privacy the following time.”
Has Eriksen spoken since the incident?
Yes. Taking to social media on Tuesday, the attacking midfielder wrote: “Big thanks for your sweet and amazing greetings and messages from all around the world. It means a lot to me and my family.
“I’m fine – under the circumstances. I still have to go through some examinations at the hospital, but I feel okay.
“Now, I will cheer on the boys on the Denmark team in the next matches. Play for all of Denmark.”
Will he be able to play football again?
It is not yet known whether Eriksen will be able to play football again.
It is not unheard of, though, as the example of German forward Daniel Engelbrecht showed.
Engelbrecht collapsed on the pitch while playing for Stuttgart Kickers in July 2013, having suffered from a heart attack.
He was then fitted with a defibrillator and returned to the pitch in November of 2014 after 17 months of recovery.
However, Engelbrecht suffered from more heart issues down the line and hung up his boots in 2018 to concentrate on a career in coaching.
In terms of players still in the game, Ajax and Netherlands star Daley Blind continues to play at the highest level after having an ICD implanted in December 2019.
Ex-Chelsea Boss Lampard Back in Crystal Palace Contention
The London club were expected to secure former Wolves boss Nuno Espirito Santo.
However, talks collapsed, which means they are looking for another candidate.
Lampard’s interest in the Palace job is unknown, but he had recently stated that he was ready to get back to work after his sacking by Chelsea in January.
PSG Hijack Another Barcelona Target — Report
According to Italian journalist Guillaume Maillard-Pacini, Paris-Saint Germain have hijacked yet another Barcelona transfer target.
A few days ago, the Paris-based club stole away Georginio Wijnaldum from the Blaugranas by offering him wages worth more than double which Joan Laporta and co were ready to offer.
Now, Les Parisiens are about to do the same with former AC Milan goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma.
Touted to become one of the world’s best goalkeepers, Donnarumma is at the end of his contract in Milan. Moving away as a free agent, the goalkeeper is on the radar of several top-tier clubs across Europe. His agent, Mino Raiola, is attempting to find the Italian national the right club where he can continue to grow and develop as a player.
Barça had made contact with Raiola regarding his transfer; the high-profile agent had offered his player to the club himself. However, this transfer has not been one of the Catalan club’s main priorities over the summer, and it is likely they will continue to bet on the relatively underperforming Marc-Andres ter Stegen, who will surely bounce back into form soon.
Therefore, the conditions have been set for PSG to hijack yet another transfer target from Camp Nou. Donnarumma, whose transfer to Barça was becoming more and more likely, will now probably be pried away to Paris — a club that have the financial resources to offer him a much better contract.
It is likely that the 22-year-old’s agent will also get his notoriously large commission on this deal as well, with reports claiming he will be asking anything up to €20m, as Donnarumma will be joining PSG as a free agent, giving more leeway for a higher agent-fee. Barcelona, in any case, would have probably not been able to afford such a fee.
