The People’s Democratic Party’s flag bearer in the October 2020 gubernatorial election, Eyitayo Jegede (SAN) has said that, it is impossible for his All Progressive Congress (APC) counterpart, Arakurin Rotimi Akeredolu to remain in office beyond October 2020 as he and the PDP enjoy the support of the overwhelming majority of people of the state.
Speaking in the Ondo State capital, Akure, on Wenesday, Jegede who was also the flag bearer of the PDP in the 2016 election, said a lot of things have changed between then and now, adding that the circumstances that allowed for the manipulation of the system in the last election are no longer there.
Insisting that the PDP is more together and purposeful than ever before, Jegede, in a statement made available to ThePageNews by
Barr. Gbenga Akinmoyo,
Spokesman, Eyitayo Jegede Campaign Organisation, said its obvious the state politically belongs to the PDP, as the people have over time realised its potentials and have populated the party.
Stating that he is better prepared to take over the governorship seat of the state now than the last election, Jegede said things are looking good for him and the party now, more than ever before, even as he remarked that the party has built its house very well.
He said PDP in Ondo State is now a very strong party that is taking in all those dissatisfied with the APC structure.
Explaining the circumstances that led to the 2016 election loss, Jegede said the PDP then was factionalised, thus leading to the agitation for his ticket which he was only able to own three days to the election through the courts.
Disclosing that he was only able to campaign for just one day before the election and without his input in the choice of his polling agents across the state, Jegede said he became the people’s choice in that election because he came with credibility and character.
He confessed the issues of the past have actually equipped him for the present challenge, as the past experience, he offered, has taught him the lessons that will allow for the take over of governance in the state for the benefit of the people of the state in October 2020.
More assuring for Jegede and the PDP, perhaps, is what the PDP candidate called the confession of the Secretary to the State government some weeks ago, that the APC manipulated its way to victory.
”Don’t forget that few weeks ago, the SSG resigned and confessed they did not win the election in 2016. They know how they got themselves there. But no matter how long falsehood thrives, a day is for the truth”.
Insisting that a lot of things have changed since the last election, especially with the PDP’s overwhelming popularity in the state, Jegede said the events since the last year general election speaks for itself.
”A year ago, Presidential & National Assembly elections took place. Before then, APC had three Senators. As I speak, PDP has taken away two, APC has only one Senator.
”It’s the same in the House of Representatives where we have taken three seats from them.
”We have done so well, this is because we have been able to build the people. We also have a lot of people moving into the PDP from the APC, we welcome them”.
Concluding that victory for him at the coming election is possible by the help of God, because the cries of the people of the state have reached Him for a better life, Jegede said ”we need God and we have the support of the people. So we will do everything democratically possible to win the election. I’m sure God has given us Victory already ” he said.
Soludo Draws Anger Of Imolites With Imo Is Not Anambra Claim
Charles Chukwuma Soludo, the gubernatorial candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APGA) for the November 6, 2021, Anambra Election has drawn the anger of the people of Imo state.
The 61year old over the weekend cast an unflattering light on Imo state.
While courting supports for his ambition with the presentation of his 72-page Campaign Agenda to the Anambra people in Lagos, Soludo claimed that “those who want to write result are causing violence to create the impression of insecurity so as postpone or hijack the election. We want to tell them: It is not possible.
The election must be held because Anambra is not Imo.”
Soludo, who left the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) for APGA in 2013 made the assertions while commenting on the spates of violence rocking Anambra state ahead of the election.
Emerging details have it that, stakeholders in Imo state find the comments credited to Soludo offensive and a desperate attempt at seeking support for his ambition.
The claim interpreted as portraying elections in Imo state as “fraudulent” is attracting massive condemnation for Soludo.
There are said to be ongoing moves by different groups to properly respond to the “unguarded” statement by the economist turned politician.
Further details revealed that it didn’t help the cause of the former Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) who lost the February 2010 Anambra State gubernatorial election as the candidate of the PDP that he was poorly received at Alaba Market, a stronghold of Igbo traders in Lagos State when he visited.
He was to have been shown little interest in his attempt to engage traders at the popular market.
Ex-Senate President David Mark Leads Race To Emerge PDP National Chairman
Latest development in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) suggests a former Senate President, David Mark is in pole position to emerge as the National Chairman of the PDP as the party is said to be considering a consensus chairmanship candidate ahead of of its upcoming PDP national convention.
The former Senate President is said to be enjoying the support of top chieftains of the main opposition party.
Recall the zoning committee headed by the Enugu State Governor, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi had earlier resolved to zone its national chairmanship position to the northern part of the country.
Mark who hails for Benue State in North Central region is eligible to contest for the chairmanship post.
According to reports, some members of the PDP’s National Executive Committee (NEC) during a meeting had agreed to throw their weight behind Mark. It was gathered that the members see Mark as the best candidate to lead the party out of the woods and deliver success in the coming elections.
Also, PDP governors, under the leadership of the Sokoto State Governor, Aminu Tambuwal, are said to have shown considerable interest in ensuring that Mark gets the job.
However, the former President hasn’t officially announced interest in running for the chairmanship post. Should Mark decide to contest, he will battle with Senator Ahmed Makarfi, Shehu Shema, Ibrahim Dankwambo, Suleiman Nazif, Ibrahim Idris (Ibro), who have all reportedly shown interest in the chairmanship position.
In related development, Governor Umaru Fintiri of Adamawa State is set to head a 20-Member Committee assigned with the responsibility to screen aspirants from the Northern region interested in the position of National Chairman of the party.
According to reports, the Northern Caucus of the party decided to allow all 19 states in the northern region to nominate one candidate for the chairmanship post.
All the 19 candidates would then be screened by the Fintiri-led committee after which three aspirants will be recommended to the NEC before the National Convention scheduled to hold in October.
Meanwhile, Governor Bala Mohammed, a member of the PDP convention planning committee, has explained why consensus candidate would be preferred.
He said: “Consensus is normally a process of democratic consultation, as democracy is about consensus. Certainly, the electoral process can be reduced by having a converging point on an individual and that would have reduced the disparaging issues within the party.”
He, however, said if consensus was not eventually agreed upon, PDP would certainly not subscribe to imposition.
On zoning, the Bauchi governor said: “We have resolved the issue of zoning. The PDP is a mature party. We have learnt from our mistakes, we will not play to the gallery the way our detractors or competitors want us to.
We will always resolve our issues, so zoning is over… What we are looking forward to is the emergence of a chairman from the North, who will give us the leadership that we require to form quality government in 2023,” he said.

Osun state’s Peoples Democratic Party, (PDP) candidate in the 2018 governorship election, Senator Ademola Adeleke has pledged to provide a private jet to ease movement of the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi’s local and international trips if elected Governor in 2022.

“By God’s grace, I shall make provision for a Private Jet to make all Ooni’s local and international trips easier. I am not making a mouth, it is what I will do.
“With the plan to erect the Osun airport, Baba (The Ooni) would be picked from the palace with a helicopter to the nearest airport to board an aeroplane to anywhere seamlessly.
“I am moved to tears when I see the poor state of our roads and others, this would be changed next year.
“The cause of this decay is because the current government has destroyed the local government system, making the supposed closest tier of government very far from the people”, said Adeleke.
Speaking, Oba Adeyeye pleaded with politicians and their supporters to ensure that peace reign before, during and after the forthcoming gubernatorial election next year in the state, saying crisis that characterised election in the past was most times instigated by followers.
