The Bayelsa State Government has accused the opposition All Progressives Congress in the state òf a sinister plot to prevent President Muhammadu Buhari from inaugurating the Bayelsa International Cargo/ Passenger Airport.
The Special Adviser to the Governor of Bayelsa State, on Media and Public Relations, Mr. Fidelis Soriwei, said in a statement on Monday that the remnants of APC are clinging onto a pernicious plot to demonize the Airport for unimaginable, pathetic political considerations.
The Governor’s Aide said that members of the APC who have become suddenly obsessed with malicious allegations and non existent controversy over the crucial airport project are working to prevent its inauguration with the sinister intent to make it an abandoned airport for campaign purposes.
According to Soriwei, nothing could be more pathetic and evil than this subversion of the general interest of Bayelsa and indeed the Ijaw nation by a group of malevolent individuals motivated by greed and selfishness.
Soriwei said that it was rather curious that the APC members would demonize a star project of immense value to the state, the Ijaw nation, the South South and indeed the country.
He described APC members who are attacking the historical airport projects as enemies of the general good and should be discountenanced by all men of good conscience.
He insisted that the airport was the critical answer to years of prayers and lamentations of the Bayelsans many of whom had died along the East West Road after flying within and outside the country to the Airports in Port Harcourt and Benin.
The Governor’s Aide argued that those who described the airport as unviable were small minds devoid of vision who the capacity to interact with tomorrow could not have seen the huge economic benefit of the project.
He pointed out that a quick check on most flights into the Port Harcourt Airport would reveal the vast number of Bayelsa residents in Yenagoa who spend their resources to add so much value to the airport and the economy òf its host state.
Soriwei stressed that it was beyond contestation that the Airport project was designed to further open up the developmental space and provide enhanced environment for economic activities and prosperity in Bayelsa.
He urged President Buhari and his handlers to be wary of the unpatriotic and destructive intent of a few disgruntled characters masquerading as critics of government.
He said even this sinister plot hidden in the garb of a newfound patriotism would fail.
He said, “It has come to the attention of the Bayelsa State Government that the opposition APC who are enraged by their recent political misfortune are planning to prevent President Muhammadu Buhari from inaugurating the Bayelsa Airport for campaign purposes.
“The essence of venturing into politics cannot be the selfish promotion of the inordinate and parochial interest of a selfish few to destroy the general good by a few disgruntled political characters masquerading as critics of government.
“It is sad that the APC In Bayelsa have thrown caution to the wind by portraying themselves as enemies of the Bayelsa people and indeed the Ijaw nation.
“The Bayelsa Airport represents an answered prayers to years of lamentation òf Bayelsa people and nearby communities in Delta state and indeed the entire Ijaw nation who have been subjected to the discomfort of making costly additional journeys after their flights.
“The Airport is strategically located to further open up the developmental space of Bayelsa, and prove enhanced environment for prosperous economic activities.
“An awareness of the pressing need for an airport in Bayelsa made the previous APC Administration under Chief Timipre Sylva to attempt an airport project at Okordia/Zarama axis of the state which, unfortunately, was abandoned after the ‘construction of a multi billion footpath to the project site.
“It is, therefore, absurd that the same man who conceived the idea of an airport project would lead a band of baleful politicians to demonize the completed airport project in Bayelsa.
The question to ask is ‘Would the airport have been seen by Sylva’s supporters to be viable if it was executed by him? Is the airport now unviable economically because it was built by Governor Dickson?.
“The fact is that the Restoration Government led by Governor Henry Seriake Dickson has made history. Governor Dickson has dared where APC and its leader saw the insurmountable on the alter of the shrine of fear, lack of vision and self defeat.
“It is high time the members APC grew up and release themselves from the talons òf pitiable primitivism to realize that the airport is not a PDP Airport. It was conceived and painstakingly executed to serve our people, the Niger Delta and other Nigerians.
“The obsession to demonize everything with the intent to harm the public good cannot do even the APC any good.
“This plot has failed.”
Crisis: Ogun PDP Factions Reunite, Vow To Reclaim Ogun
The warring factions of the Peoples Democratic Party in Ogun State led by the late Senator Buruji Kashamu and a former House of Representatives, Oladipupo Adebutu, have resolved their differences and reunited.
After over a decade of crisis and court orders, loyalists of both Kashamu and Adebutu who are the two major factions on Wednesday, reunited and bowed to reclaim the state in the coming 2023 elections.
The factions met during a reunion meeting held at the party secretariat in Abeokuta.
The leaders of the two factions resolved to work together towards strengthening the party for the 2023 elections.
Leading the Kashamu faction, Segun Seriki, declared that the party will henceforth operate under Sikirullahi Ogundele-led executive of the PDP, thereby collapsing the other faction which paraded Samson Bamgbose as the Chairman.
He expressed regret that the crisis had robbed off PDP the chances of returning to power since 2011 when the party was defeated upon expiration of Gbenga Daniel’s tenure.
Seriki called on party members to be committed to the reunion and work towards rebuilding the party for victory in the 2023 election.
Bamgbose applauded the leaders of the party for achieving reconciliation of the warring factions of the PDP.
He asked the PDP leaders and supporters to be ready for the battle to unseat the ruling party in 2023.
He said “We are going to the battlefront. We must be ready and win.”
The party Chairman, Sikirullahi Ogundele, said the reunion marked the beginning of a new relationship that would drive the party to power in 2023.
He said, “I am happy that the PDP of 2003 is now back. We are now together in harmony, looking forward to having a united PDP in Ogun State.
“We are going to get back our mandate from the misrule of the APC, a party that has no blueprint.
“They just wake up in the morning and embark on any project that comes to their head. They give water or road where not needed.
The PDP is the best party so far and we are winning in 2023.”
A former spokesperson to former presidents Olusegun Obasanjo, and Goodluck Jonathan, Doyin Okupe, expressed happiness over the reunion of the factions.
Okupe, however, cautioned leaders in the party that “there will still be a fight, there cannot be equality. Disagreement is not disloyalty, if we don’t disagree, we can’t agree to move forward. There is a way to go about everything.”
Adebutu in his remarks enjoined party members to work in harmony, adding that the party has come as the alternative choice.
He said, “The people of Ogun State need a platform to rescue them, the PDP has come to rescue Ogun residents and Nigerians from the sufferings by the APC.”
Bisoye Fagade Takes Lagelu By Storm, Unfolds Plans For Oyo Development
Abisoye Fagade, the 47-year-old Nigerian marketing communication professional, is a man of many parts.
And if words on the streets of Ibadan are anything to go by, Fagade has his eyes fixed on two goals, his hospitality outfit, and politics. While his hospitality outfit, Alexia’s Place, situated in a serene environment in the Opebi area of Ikeja has continued to grow steam since its inception, the founder and CEO of Sodium Brand Solutions has been closing ranks in the Oyo state All Progressive Congress.
Fagade became popular in Oyo state politics when he made his entrance many years ago with the slogan, Oyo si ma dun (Oyo will be great) and now, the astute professional seems ready to return to politics.
To show he has his eyes fixed on the ball, Fagade was recently spotted in the Lagelu area of Oyo state where he began the process of reincarnating Lagelu in Oyo State politics. Fagade returned to his constituency to listen to his constituents and begin strategy towards taking Oyo state to an enviable height.
Speaking at a grand reception organised in his honour by the APC leadership of the party, Fagade said, “I must state here that I have personally taken up the gauntlet to join other well-meaning citizens in promoting the ideas of Progressive politics which we are known for in this part of the country.
The project has since commenced as we have done a lot to alleviate the suffering of the people, especially at the grassroots through the ‘Oyo Si Maa Dun’ Foundation.
I’m using this avenue to prepare our minds and encourage all of us to remain optimistic about the future of our dear state and that of our fatherland- Nigeria.
Jerry Gana Laments As He Returns To PDP After 3 Years
Former Minister of Information, Professor Jerry Gana, has alleged that there is no government in Nigeria.
Gana said this when he, alongside many of his supporters, returned the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) on Wednesday.
In March 2018, Gana, a member of the Board of Trustees of the PDP, had dumped the party for the Social Democratic Party.
But addressing the party members in Bida, Niger State, during a reception to mark his return to the party, Gana said the country is nose-diving and needs urgent rescue.
Prof. Gana said, “Today is not a day for lecture. It is not a day for campaigns. We just want to rejoice that we are back together solidly; and we are going to work together solidly, that we are going to work together effectively, that we are going to campaign powerfully.
“I tell you, we are going to go around strategically, in such a way that the All Progressives Congress (APC) so called government, whether in Niger state; is there a Government in Niger State? Because many people are not aware, or at the Centre? At federal level, we don’t even have a Government.”
Earlier, Party leaders from across the three Senatorial zones assured the party faithful that the PDP is ready to take over Niger and salvage it from the “deflated state that it is under the ruling APC”
