The script for a drama of sort is gradually taking shape, in what insiders described as “a serious push to ensure indigenous Lagosians hold important political portfolios within the state government.
To this end, plans have been uncovered to stop the election of the incumbent Speaker of the Lagos House of Assembly, Hon. Mudashiru Obasa from retaining the seat, because as a source puts it, it remained the only office among the topmost ones in the state’s political setting that could be “wrestled for a true lagosian”.
ThePage gathered that shortly after the emergence of Babajide Sanwolu and Femi Hamzat as the Governor and Deputy Governor elect respectively , a group of Lagosians from Lagos Island known as “Atari Ajanaku” decided to sponsor a Lagos indigene member of the Local House of Assembly, Wasiu Eshinlokun to contest the Speaker’s seat with the incumbent.
“These guys are not happy that the entire political machinery of the state is in the hands of non indigenes.
” You can see what Tinubu who is not from Lagos himself has done by practically handing over the political administration of the state to his kinsman, Aregbesola,
who now decides who gets what in the state” a source in the know of the ongoing plot told Thepage.
According to the source, core Lagosians are not happy and feel ostracized because the Governor elect is from Ijebu Mushin in Ogun state while his deputy is from Itori also in Ogun state.
Findings further revealed that the group is sad that the new Senator and two returning ones just elected to represent the three Senatorial districts of the state are non Lagosians.
This is on top of allegations that the former Governor of Osun state, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola may have pencilled down the Lagos state current Commissioner for Wealth Creation. Uzamat Akinbule Yusuf from Osun state, as the next Secretary to the government of Lagos.
The development has thus left only the state’s Speakership position as the only available for a real Lagosian to agitate for, especially when the current occupant of the seat is believed to be from Egba in Ogun state.
ThePage however gathered that efforts to enlist the support of Oba Of Lagos, Rilwan Akiolu to be part of the plot to give the Speaker’s seat to a member of his domain is not yielding fruit.
It was reliably gathered that the Oba decided to distance himself from the plot when he was told that the power that be had decided to continue with the incumbent Speaker, Mudashiru Obasa in office.
He was also allegedly warned that the name of his Son, Fuad which has appeared on the tentative list of Special Advisers to the Governor elect would be removed while his other Son, Kayode who was recently elected as member House of Representatives would be denied membership of a juicy committee should he be found to be directly or indirectly aiding the agitation of the Lagos group to unseat Obasa as the Speaker.
