Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has warned the Presidential Candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Atiku Abubarka, of the task in solving the international problems before him before an hitch free ride to the presidency could be guarrantted.
There have been talks before now, about the former Vice President not eligibile to visit the United States of America over alledged shaddy deals.
Endorsing the candidature of Atiku in Abekouta, Ogun state on Thursday, Obasanjo said ” there are still areas, nationally and internationally, where you have to mend fences and make amends”
Offering to assist him in this regard ,Obasanjo told his former Vice that he believes he knows how to handle what is already out and what may yet be put out by the opposition adding that “if there is anything I can do and you want me to do in that respect, I will do”
Making the statement after a reconciliatory meeting with his former Vice in company with some PDP leaders, Obasanjo said ” I am convinced that if you continue with the attitude that brought you here with these distinguished leaders of goodwill, with remorse and contrite heart, the rest of the coast within and outside the country can be cleared”.
Obasanjo who had sworn to derail Atiku ambition to become the country’s president said he believed Atiku has ‘re-discovered and re-positioned himself’ and is now good enough to enjoy his support in the next election.
“Let me start by congratulating President-to-be, Atiku Abubakar, for his success at the recent PDP Primary and I took note of his gracious remarks in his acceptance speech that it all started here.
“Yes, when it started, it was meant for Atiku to succeed Obasanjo. In the presence of these distinguished leaders of goodwill today, let me say it openly that we have reviewed what went wrong on the side of Atiku. And in all honesty, my former Vice-President has re-discovered and re-positioned himself. As I have repeatedly said, it is not so much what you did against me that was the issue but what you did against the Party, the Government and the country.
“I took the stand I had taken based on the character and attributes you exhibited in the position you found yourself. I strongly believe that I was right. It was in the overall interest of everyone and everything to take such a position.
“From what transpired in the last couple of hours or so, you have shown remorse; you have asked for forgiveness and you have indicated that you have learnt some good lessons and you will mend fences and make amends as necessary and as desirable.
“Whenever or wherever you might have offended me, as a Christian who asks for God’s forgiveness of my sins and inadequacies on daily basis, I forgive and I sincerely advise you to learn from the past and do what is right and it will be well with you. Obviously, you have mended fences with the Party and fully reconciled with the Party. “
“That’s why today, you are the Presidential Candidate of the Party. In addition to appreciating all that the Party has done for you, may I advise you to work together with all those who contested for the Party’s flag with you as a team for your campaign.
“There are still areas, nationally and internationally, where you have to mend fences and make amends. You will know how to handle what is already out and what may yet be put out by the opposition. But, I am convinced that if you continue with the attitude that brought you here with these distinguished leaders of goodwill, with remorse and contrite heart, the rest of the coast within and outside the country can be cleared. And if there is anything I can do and you want me to do in that respect, I will do.
“I am sure with the right attitude for change where necessary, and by putting lessons learned by you to work, you will get the understanding, cooperation, support and mandate – all at the national level. With Nigerians voting for you, it will mean that you secure their forgiveness and regain their confidence.”
” It will be with the hope or assurance of a Paul on the road to Damascus Conversion. After all, change and conversion are of man. I believe that with a contrite heart, change is possible in everybody’s life and situation.
“For me, relatively and of all the aspirants in the PDP, you have the widest and greatest exposure, experience, outreach and possibly the best machinery and preparation for seeing the tough and likely dirty campaign ahead through. From what I personally know of you, you have capacity to perform better than the incumbent.
“You surely understand the economy better; you have business experience, which can make your administration business-friendly and boost the economy and provide jobs.
“You have better outreach nationally and internationally and that can translate to better management of foreign affairs. You are more accessible and less inflexible and more open to all parts of the country in many ways. As Pastor Bakare, one-time running mate of the incumbent President said, “You are a wazobia man.” And that should help you in confronting the confrontable and shunning nepotism.
“As you know, along the road to where you are today, many leaders and ordinary people cooperated and overtly and covertly worked hard. On your behalf, I thank them all. May their coast continue to be expanded. And when you become Nigerian President which, insha-Allah, you will be, remember what we did together in government – we ran an administration by Nigerians for all Nigerians where merit and performance count more than blood relationship, friendship or kith and kin.”
“Although some time and ground have been lost, you should endeavour to start from where we stopped and recover some lost ground, if not time.
“Please uphold truth, integrity, principles, morality and fight corruption, crimes and insurgency. The fundamental law of the land, our constitution must be scrupulously defended. I make one demand and one demand on you today, I need you to say before God and man that you will always remain irrevocably committed to upholding ALL the provisions of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and the whole country will remain your single indivisible constituency.
“Constitutionalism, popular participation and inclusiveness are pre-conditions for reversing the deficits of the past three and half years. They will ensure abiding faith in our indivisibility, oneness and faith in the survival of all against none.
“The fundamentals for our development, economic growth and progress are hard and soft infrastructure. Remember to always give adequate places in your administration to our youth and women.
“All the authorities involved with the preparation, all processes and conduct of the election must ensure that the election is free, fair and credible.” the former president said.

Aregbesola Camp Kicks As Osun APC Endorses Oyetola For Second Term
The All Progressive Congress (APC) in Osun State has endorsed Governor Gboyega Oyetola for another term.
The party also adopted consensus model for the ward congress of Saturday.
The Chairman of the Congress Electoral Panel, Senator Gbenga Elegbeleye, at a meeting with party leadership in Osogbo, the state capital, on Friday evening said due process would be followed during the exercise.
Senator Sunday Fajinmi from Iwo, Ayedire and Ola-Oluwa Federal Constituency moved motion for the adoption of the incumbent state Chairman of the party, Prince Adegboyega Famodun, and the endorsement of Oyetola for second term.
The motion was seconded by Hon. George Jolaoye, a former House of Representatives member.
Oyetola and top party faithful in the state including former Deputy Governor, Mrs Titilaoye Laoye Ponle, Senator Iyiola Omisore and Sooko Adeleke Adewoyin who were at the meeting confirmed the adoption of consensus model.
Also, the Senator representing Osun Certral, Dr Basiru Ajibola, and the Speaker of the State House of Assembly, while speaking on behalf of all legislators in the state, also confirmed the adoption of consensus model for the exercise.
Oyetola said the adoption of consensus was to prevent rancour and appealed to members of the party in the state to conduct themselves peacefully during the process.
The governor said necessary security arrangements have been put in place to ensure safety of lives and property across the state before, during and after the Congress.
But the camp of the former governor of the state and Minister of Interior, Mr Rauf Aregbesola, said the consensus arrangement was designed to edge out he and his followers from the control of the party structure in the state.
The Secretary of the party, Mr Rasaq Salinsile, and the former Chairman of the party who are in Aregbesola’s camp, said they were not aware of the consensus arrangement.
Also, some APC women and youths staged peaceful protest claiming that Senator Gbenga Elegbeleye Congress Electoral Panel did not carry them along.
The protesters led by Mr Rasheed Raji alleged that Oyetola and Famodun camped the Congress Electoral Panel.
They also claimed that party members did not have access to the panel and Congress materials.
APC Congresses: Ajibulu Wants Oshiomole’s Recall, Backs Southern Governor in Ekiti
Ahead of the All Progressives Congress (APC), congresses scheduled to hold across the country on Saturday, party stalwart, Chief Segun Ajibulu has called on leaders to exercise restraint before dabbling into what may result into a collosal electoral doom for the party in coming polls.
Ajibulu dropped the hint against the lingering controversies trailing the credibility of the Governor Buni led national caretaker committee of the APC, to conduct foolproof elections.
He also expressed worry on the APC leadership arrangements in Ekiti state, rooting that the next governor should come from the Southern part.
Demands for the dissolution of the current national caretaker committee, peaked with the narrow margined victory of the Ondo State governor, Rotimi Akeredolu at the Supreme court yesterday.
The 4 to 3 decision of the judges at the apex court had exposed the legal implications of the Buni led caretaker committee, in conducting unchallengeable elections.
Reacting, Ajibulu advised that the APC, through its leadership tow the safe track by calling back the Adams Oshiomole leadership to midwife pending congresses and elections to lend needed legal teeth to the exercises.
According to him; ” time is of essence and the only way to move with time is to return to status quo. We need to avoid every vindictive strategy that may turn our victory to waste at the electoral tribunals. And to achieve this, we all must be ready to bury the past, discard with ego and work our party to assured victory,” he said.
Ajibulu, who bemoaned the polarisation of the APC in Ekiti state, also called on every warring parties to shielth swords and come together in unity to see APC to victory in the state.
He prevailed on party hierarchy in the state to begin the peace process by zoning the next governorship slot to the South.
According to him, the fact that the southern Ekiti has not produced governor since the creation of the state, is a silent war that no amount of justifications can win.
“If we see ourselves as brothers, if we see ourselves as one, morality demands that we should cede governorship to the South in the coming elections. The governorship has gone round the north and the central sections of Ekiti and it is just fair to now consider the South.
“I also want to call on our politicians from the South to work together and narrow down on one or two persons to represent them and avoid multiple aspirations which result may be counterproductive.
“I believe the southern Ekiti is not in short of credible and knowledgeable politicians who can represent them and lead the state satisfactorily,” he said
2023 Presidency: Tinubu Chases Fayemi Out Of Kano
As Southwest presidential hopefuls begin to seek support across the country, the Ekiti state governor, Dr Kayode Fayemi has experienced a shock treatment in Kano.
The Ekiti state governor’s hope of a support base in the populous Northern Nigeria state has been dashed by his political godfather, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, himself a Presidential aspirational.
ThePageNews reliably gathered that, in the bid to erect a political base in the state, Fayemi raised a strategic campaign cum lobby group,to penetrate Kano state and establish a noticeable presence, as foundation for a potential massive political platform to work for the actualization of the alleged presidential ambition of the former Minister.
According to ThePageNews source, Fayemi’s men were told in Kano that they should look elsewhere for support for their principal, as major relevant political groups in the state have pledged support for the aspiration of Tinubu.
It was further gathered that, the Fayemi team which refused to give up hope easily, intensified on their lobby, but couldn’t find a headway,as they were told by every group in the state about their allegiance to Tinubu’s presidential ambition.
Our source mentioned that, the Kano area has been locked down politically by the APC leader, Asiwaju, to sustain his presidential ambition of 2023.
It was further gathered that, the move to secure Kano ahead of the 2023 political game, especially as it affects Tinubu’s ambition was strategic.
ThePageNews was told that, because of the population relevance of the state to presidential elections, Tinubu who is a friend to the Kano state governor, Abdulahi Ganduje, has used the influence of the governor to secure, what our source described as a cult followership for Tinubu in the pursuit of his presidential ambition.
