The Ibeju access link to Epe has been blocked by protesters protesting the deplorable roads in the town.
ThePageNews gathered that the protest which has paralysed commercial activities in the town is at the instance of youths , following claims that the exit roads from Epe through Ibeju, Ijebu ode and Ikorodu have all become very deplorable.
It was also gathered that the critical state of the roads has shot up transport fare in the area. For instance, a trip from Epe to Lagos now costs a thousand naira.
The activities of the protesters has shut down activities in the area, thus attracting the intervention of the Legislator representing Epe Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives and Chairman, House Service Committee, Hon Wale Raji who called on the residents to be calm following the massive protest and blockage of the very busy Lekki-Epe expressway .
Raji said that he has been in communication with the state Government on the state of the road and was informed that the contract for the rehabilitation of the road has been awarded to Hitech Construction Company who are expected to commence work soon after all logistics and documentation would have been sorted out.
He said following the distress calls and the reports he received on the protest and road blockage today, he again put a call through to the Deputy Governor, Dr Obafemi Hamzat who gave assurances that all logistics and documentations impeding the commencement of the project have been sorted out as at yesterday and that the contractor will commence work on the road tomorrow. While appreciating the perseverance of the people, he pleaded with them to remain calm and avoid breakdown of law and order. He also urge them to be conscious of the prevalence of the covid 19 virus and observe the guidelines on self protection so as to remain safe.
