It was frills and thrills galore as Sapio Club gather digntries including Nobel Laurate Wole Soyinka and Senator Dino Melaye at the prestigious Oriental Hotel, Lagos,to mark the 60th anniversary of Nigeria.
The Sapio club did not only celebrate Nigeria at 60 but also gave out awards to some Nigerians who have impacted the lives of Nigerians.
Known for its community of intelligence proposing and implementing solutions for Africans socio- economic and political development, The Sapio Club has done a lot for the growth of Africa nay Nigeria and it was not a surprise when the creme da creme of Nigeria politicians, socialites, business guru and entertainers stormed Oriental Hotel, Lagos Sunday 4th October, 2020 for the epoch making event which was declared open by Bashorun JK Randle ex KPMG and ICAN president for African.
A strong breed address was delivered on by Prof. Wole Soyinka, in line with the UNITED NATIONS SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT GOALS highlighting the need to be strong and focused, after the glorious national anthem was led by Harpist Walter Spearheart.
Leading the pack of other dignitaries to the occasion was Sen. Dino Melaye .
Also in attendance was Oloye Moroun Ranti Asabi, the Asoju Asa Ile Oodua- Oonirisa, cultural ambassador to His Imperial Majesty-Oonirisa, UN delegate were also around to add to the glitts, Seyi Tinubu a honorable member, Nigeria former captain and most capped on field Super Eagle, Joseph Yobo was also present to sign a customized Nigerian ( John Membu) jersey which was donated to the club for charity which was bought and donated by Hon Farouq Sule Garo.
The list of dignitaries at the event includes Chinwe Egwin, Chef Prez, Tolarin Thomas, Ezinwe Akudo (Ex Miss Nigeria), Ebele Udoh, Ugo Udezue, MDP Chairmain Bukunyi Olateru etc were all present for the event.
At the event also are Jim Tewe, Omobaba, Samuel Otigba, Tolani Thomas Adebola Williams, Michael Njoku, Hon. Shina Peller, Naomi Nwokolo, Bukunyi Olateru-Olagbegi, Amb. Dr. Sowemimo Abiodun, Alex Ekubo, Rt. Hon. Debo Ogundoyin and Hon. Olamijuwonlo Alao(JP) who was also on hand to add glamour to the event with his beautiful wife, Rausa Hadiza.
Speaking at the event as the father of the day, Sen. Melaye emphasized on the reason why Nigerians must not lose hope in the country, saying it is a challenge to individuals to move the country forward.
He poured encomiums on the SAPIO Club led by the infantigible Ambassador Sonnia Agu
“I am highly impressed by this club” Melaye said, adding that members of the club are role models for their generation.
“Young as they are, they don’t think of what they want to gain from Nigeria, rather they are given out to the society and I believe this club will go a very long way. To me you just started and the sky will be your starting point” Melaye opined.
Chief.( Mrs) Oluwakemi Nelson ED. (Operational NSITF) along side the special guest Mrs Ashabi were the mothers of the day and she also gave advise to the guests present and all the members of SAPIO Club who she admonished should not relent in their efforts to take the club to the Apex.
Recipients of awards given out at the event include
Adebola Williams who received SAPIO 2020 Social Impactor award, Alex Ekubor and Ay were also given awards even as Oyo state speaker, Rt. Hon. Debo Ogundoyin was also presented with an award.
His Imperial Majesty Arole Oduduwa Olofin Adimula Oonirisa Adeyeye Enitan Babatubde Ogunwusi OJAJA II, The Ooni of Ife sends his regards as Ambassador is the 3rd child of his 100 Oduduwa Royal African Young Leaders.
Through her, he advised SAPIO Club to keep up the good work as he couldn’t make it due to the Olojo Festival.
In her closing speech the CEO of SAPIO, Ambassador Miss. Sonnia Agu who was dressed as Mrs. Adunni Oluwole (The woman who spoke) to represent her plans for Nigeria give glory to Almighty God and thank those who honored the invitation to grace the event
