Tinubu, Fashola Rivalry : APC  Boils Over Buhari’s Southwest  campaign Leader

If information gathered by Thepage concerning preparations by the ruling All Progressive Congress (APC) towards its  2019 presidential election campaign in the Southwest are anything to go by, there are serious cause for concern.

Dependable sources within the fold have informed about a ‘ fierce battle’  within the presidency concerning who leads President Mohamadu Bubari’s campaign between its National leader, Bola Ahmed Tinubu and a set of a group labelled Buhari Boys, led by the Minister for Works, Power and Housing, Babatunde Raji Fashola.

ThepageNews gathered that there have been an uneasy calm between the president”s two camps , said to have been dealing with themselves with suspicion.

According to a source within the camps, when it appeared that President Buhari was ready to do everything possible to appease Tinubu to work for his reelection after the perceived initial sidetrack, he started to  put in place measures to restore his confidence in him as the president, hence the removal of former Chairman, Odigwe Oyegun.

The oyegun leadership was believed to have been in favour of the  Southwest Buhari boys which primary objective was to water down Tinubu’s political influence within the presidency by  dismantling his structures in the Southwest states where Tinubu is considered lord over all.

Before Oyegun’s replacement with Adams Oshiomole who is belived to have surrendered the party structure to Tinubu, The league of Buhari boys, consisting of Fashola, the Governors of Ekiti, Ogun and Ondo, Fayemi, Amosu and Rotimi Akeredolu have succeeded in wrestling Tinubu’s influence on these states out of him.

This, it was gathered, was responsible for the uncertainties surrounding the elections of the governors of these southwest states because of litigations hanging on them.

As a result of the losses suffered by Tinubu’s candidates in recent elections held in the Southwest states , Buhari was said to have agreed with the postulation of the Fashola group that Tinubu had lost the clout to win votes for him next year and that point was to be driven home with Tinubu’s candidate, Oyetola, programmed to lose the recent controversial Osun election.

Apparently aware of what effect the loss of Oyetola gubernatorial bid would have on his reputation as ‘ prolific striker in southwest politics” Tinubu, with the help of Oshiomole put everything to ensure Oyetola emerged as Osun governor elect.

According to sources in the know, the last minute fight put up to ensure Oyetola’s victory and the eventual controversy surrounding the  Victory which the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is still challenging in court, was said to have seriously lowered Tinubu’s ego and viewed within the presidency to have lost whatever charm made him thick towards the 2015 general election.

As the unfavorable scenarios around Tinubu continue to grow, ThepageNews gathered Fashola’s profile as the Lagos poster boy was pushed to Buhari with the other members of the group as formidable enough to deliver Lagos and the Southwest for him. This it was gathered ,necessitated what a source reffered to as ” the conscious efforts of the Oshiomole leadership to put those boys where they belong.
“By ensuring that the structures in their respective states are mutilated towards the general election to prevent them from having any advantage over Tinubu in the raging supremacy battle”

The effect of the supremacy battle is believed to be responsible  for the crisis being witnessed in the APC Ogun, Ondo, Osun and Lagos states, following events surrounding the outcome of primary elections held in the states.

Despite the seeming loss of influence by Tinubu however, Thepage source maintained President Buhari favoured  him over the poster boy group.

Sources confirmed however that,  the body language of Buhari changed following information reaching him soon after former Vice President Atiku Abubarka won the PDP ticket to contest against him.

It was also gathered that information filtered to President Buhari about Tinubu’s alleged  sympathy for the PDP candidate .This has been described as the reason  responsible for  the APC National leader’s decision to go public against the PDP candidate of recent by making negative comments about him.

The sudden media attack against Atiku, a source told Thepage has been drawn to the attention of the President as ” mere political game Asiwaju is noted for, but the president seem bent on trusting him and doesn’t want to give him any excuse to work against his Interest. That is why  the president is making  conscious efforts to see that Oshiomole is retained at all cost to satisfy Asiwaju so he won’t have any excuse. “

Our source added  that the posers  pushed before President Buhari in making a decision between Asiwaju and The Fashola team as the face of his Southwest campaign  were , Whether Asiwaju will secure the cooperation of the aggrieved to work with him or he will genuinely work for Buhari against Atiku towards the elections.

Aregbesola Camp Kicks As Osun APC Endorses Oyetola For Second Term

The All Progressive Congress (APC) in Osun State has endorsed Governor Gboyega Oyetola for another term.

The party also adopted consensus model for the ward congress of Saturday.

The Chairman of the Congress Electoral Panel, Senator Gbenga Elegbeleye, at a meeting with party leadership in Osogbo, the state capital, on Friday evening said due process would be followed during the exercise.

Senator Sunday Fajinmi from Iwo, Ayedire and Ola-Oluwa Federal Constituency moved motion for the adoption of the incumbent state Chairman of the party, Prince Adegboyega Famodun, and the endorsement of Oyetola for second term.

The motion was seconded by Hon. George Jolaoye, a former House of Representatives member.

Oyetola and top party faithful in the state including former Deputy Governor, Mrs Titilaoye Laoye Ponle, Senator Iyiola Omisore and Sooko Adeleke Adewoyin who were at the meeting confirmed the adoption of consensus model.

Also, the Senator representing Osun Certral, Dr Basiru Ajibola, and the Speaker of the State House of Assembly, while speaking on behalf of all legislators in the state, also confirmed the adoption of consensus model for the exercise.

Oyetola said the adoption of consensus was to prevent rancour and appealed to members of the party in the state to conduct themselves peacefully during the process.

The governor said necessary security arrangements have been put in place to ensure safety of lives and property across the state before, during and after the Congress.

But the camp of the former governor of the state and Minister of Interior, Mr Rauf Aregbesola, said the consensus arrangement was designed to edge out he and his followers from the control of the party structure in the state.

The Secretary of the party, Mr Rasaq Salinsile, and the former Chairman of the party who are in Aregbesola’s camp, said they were not aware of the consensus arrangement.

Also, some APC women and youths staged peaceful protest claiming that Senator Gbenga Elegbeleye Congress Electoral Panel did not carry them along.

The protesters led by Mr Rasheed Raji alleged that Oyetola and Famodun camped the Congress Electoral Panel.

They also claimed that party members did not have access to the panel and Congress materials.

APC Congresses: Ajibulu Wants Oshiomole’s Recall, Backs Southern Governor in Ekiti

Ahead of the All Progressives Congress (APC), congresses scheduled to hold across the country on Saturday, party stalwart, Chief Segun Ajibulu has called on leaders to exercise restraint before dabbling into what may result into a collosal electoral doom for the party in coming polls.

Ajibulu dropped the hint against the lingering controversies trailing the credibility of the Governor Buni led national caretaker committee of the APC, to conduct foolproof elections.

He also expressed worry on the APC leadership arrangements in Ekiti state, rooting that the next governor should come from the Southern part.

Demands for the dissolution of the current national caretaker committee, peaked with the narrow margined victory of the Ondo State governor, Rotimi Akeredolu at the Supreme court yesterday.

The 4 to 3 decision of the judges at the apex court had exposed the legal implications of the Buni led caretaker committee, in conducting unchallengeable elections.

Reacting, Ajibulu advised that the APC, through its leadership tow the safe track by calling back the Adams Oshiomole leadership to midwife pending congresses and elections to lend needed legal teeth to the exercises.

According to him; ” time is of essence and the only way to move with time is to return to status quo. We need to avoid every vindictive strategy that may turn our victory to waste at the electoral tribunals. And to achieve this, we all must be ready to bury the past, discard with ego and work our party to assured victory,” he said.

Ajibulu, who bemoaned the polarisation of the APC in Ekiti state, also called on every warring parties to shielth swords and come together in unity to see APC to victory in the state.

He prevailed on party hierarchy in the state to begin the peace process by zoning the next governorship slot to the South.

According to him, the fact that the southern Ekiti has not produced governor since the creation of the state, is a silent war that no amount of justifications can win.

“If we see ourselves as brothers, if we see ourselves as one, morality demands that we should cede governorship to the South in the coming elections. The governorship has gone round the north and the central sections of Ekiti and it is just fair to now consider the South.

“I also want to call on our politicians from the South to work together and narrow down on one or two persons to represent them and avoid multiple aspirations which result may be counterproductive.

“I believe the southern Ekiti is not in short of credible and knowledgeable politicians who can represent them and lead the state satisfactorily,” he said
