Villagers Build Massive Penis Statue To End Drought

Drought

Villagers in Yothaka, in Thailand’s Chachoengsao province, have erected a giant penis statue in an effort to end a period of drought.

Pattaya News reported the farmers in the region had been concerned that there had not been enough rain in recent times.

To further worsen their worry, the water coming from irrigation canals was too salty and had been damaging crops.

To call forth the rain, a giant penis statue, or “Palad Khik”, was erected on June 9.

According to local village headman, Chamnan Kenthongdaeng, just two days after the giant penis was installed, it had started raining with a shower that lasted about half an hour.

Koson Samang, the headman of a nearby village, had made a video of the rain as proof.

However, local farmers complained that the brief shower hadn’t been long enough to irrigate their fields.

Chamnan then promised that prayers to the phallus will continue.

He said that erecting a Palad Khik, representing fertility and new growth, was a local tradition going back decades, to the time of his grandparents.

Chamnan said that the giant penis, built in the middle of the road, wouldn’t cause any problems with traffic, because it was built on a cul-de-sac.

“It will be removed as soon as the seasonal rain comes,” he promised.

Meanwhile, local residents are being encouraged to pray to the gigantic penis and leave small offerings.

Eleven Malian soldiers were killed and 14 others injured on Monday in an ambush near Tassit, in Mali’s northern region of Gao, the Malian Armed Forces confirmed on its website on Wednesday.

More than one hundred men of “armed terrorist groups” on pickups and motorcycles ambushed a team of Malian soldiers in Tassit, a town located in the region of Gao, killing 11 Malian soldiers, the Malian army said in a statement.

The army added that 14 soldiers were injured, with 8 in critical condition, together with 11 others reported missing.

According to the Malian military, all the injured have been evacuated and taken to hospital by UN’s peacekeeping mission MINUSMA for medical care.

The army said the French counter-terrorism force Barkhane also deployed two helicopters to support Malian Armed Forces in its sweeping operation.

Following a military coup in 2012, insurgents have been roaming northern Mali.

Armed attacks have recently extended to central Mali, regardless of the presence of the French military and United Nations peacekeepers in this West African country.
